about

Upbeat, electronic/acoustic instrumental music. Three years of music in 12 instrumental tracks. To be listened to while you jog, walk, stand, run, sleep/can't sleep, read, (dance?), stare out of a window, sit on a bus, sit in class, cook, eat, watch, listen, drown out...

This was made adjacent to learning how to mix and record. I remember feeling like I was going to fall over in my chair as I tried to learn about EQs and compression while working on Pluto, the first track I'd ever fully created in a DAW using multi-tracks and effects.

I was frustrated with myself at the start of 2011 as I'd only created 4 demos the previous year. I gave myself a challenge: to create one piece of music per month until the end of the year. This resulted 20 demos which I spent 2012 and the first half of 2013 completing. My plan was then to release them on the anniversary of the day I'd started The Departure of Pluto since I consider that the beginning of this musical endeavor.

I have a soft spot for this album even though I think it isn't that representative of me or my style — though I am still in here below the surface. I was also working a retail job at around $8 an hour and couldn't afford real instruments or nice VSTi's. All I had were the pre-installed instruments in my DAW or what I could find for free online, along with numerous samples from The Freesound Project (all of which are listed in the attribution page below).
